The end of the construction for the newly-built middle school wing at River Ridge’s Patch Grove facility is nearly complete. Kraemer Brothers is making the finishing touches between now and Nov. 10. Besides putting in ceilings, installing whiteboards/smartboards, and landscaping/seeding, all the final tasks will be addressed in the next four weeks.

The custodial staff at River Ridge will do some cleaning and preparation of the rooms and offices before the big move, which will take place on Thursday, Nov. 16.

But, as the district looks ahead, teachers both at the Upper Elementary in Bloomington and middle school teachers in Patch Grove have been boxing up the materials in their rooms in anticipation of the move.

The plan is, on Thursday, Nov. 16, teachers and staff will report to the Upper Elementary School in Bloomington at 7:30 a.m. All will pitch in to pack up one classroom at a time and load up the U-Haul trucks to transport everything to Patch Grove, where it will be unloaded into the new assigned rooms and offices. If any community members or parents would like to join, they are welcome to participate in this historic event. It will be “all hands on deck” to make the work easier. District Administrator Jeff Athey anticipates being able to accomplish this move on that one day. But, just in case, Friday, Nov. 17 could be a second moving day, if necessary. The goal is that all teachers are ready to teach in their new room—all at one site—by Monday, Nov. 27.

Students will not be in school Nov. 16-26, because that’s Thanksgiving break. Twelve-month employees will work the short week of Nov. 20-22, though. The offices and school will be closed Nov. 23-26.

“We’re excited about the Nov. 27 date, when the entire 549 student population, teachers and staff will all be in one site in Patch Grove,” Athey said. “It hasn’t been determined as of yet when we’ll hold an unveiling for the public, but we’ll communicate that information on the website, newsletter and newspaper to keep our parents and public informed. We look forward to you seeing this completed project in the near future.”
