River Ridge hosted Kickapoo for its regional semifinal match Thursday night. River Ridge won in three sets with scores of 25-21, 25-22, 25-23. Both teams played very well, and there were lots of lead changes, especially in the third game.

“I was very pleased with how our girls stepped it up with their serving. They only missed one serve in the three games. We also passed the ball up pretty well,” said Coach Dianne Langmeier.

River Ridge had  a tough battle for the regional finals, and they came up short against the Benton Zephyrs on Saturday night at River Ridge. The Lady Timberwolves lost by scores of 26-28, 23-25 and 14-25.

“The girls played hard and had some great plays, but the Zephyrs just did a better job of digging up our hits and putting it back down on our side,” said Coach Langmeier. “We also had some problems with a few of their good servers. I was proud how the girls only missed two serves in the game.  We also slowed Emma Lawrence down a bit. She only had two blocks on us this game. The girls also got touches on her hits. Our back row players did an excellent job of picking up the spikes off those blocks, and making it a very fun game to watch.”

“The girls had a great season. We have a lot of young players who got significant playing time this year, so we hope to be back even stronger next year.”
