Prairie du Chien man is charged with strangulation

A 27-year-old Prairie du Chien man has been charged in Crawford County Circuit Court with one count of strangulation and suffocation and one count of criminal trespass.

Tyson Martin faces up to $20,000 in fines and 6.75 years of imprisonment if convicted of both counts.

According to the criminal complaint, a Prairie du Chien police officer responded to a residence and could hear screaming and what sounded like a physical altercation coming from inside the residence.

The officer entered the residence through an open door and saw Martin screaming and appearing to be very agitated and highly intoxicated, the complaint said.

There was a woman and another man in the residence. According to the complaint, Martin and the woman were in a previous relationship but the relationship had ended, and the woman now in a relationship with the man who lived at the residence.

The man told officers that he and the woman were in bed  when Martin came into the room and grabbed the man by the throat. The man said this caused him pain, and for a time, he could not breathe, according to the complaint.

The altercation continued out into the hallway. Law enforcement showed up at about that time, the complaint said.
