Umbrella Arts is sponsoring a new event known as Autumn Chill on Saturday, Oct. 7, from 3-6 p.m. at River Park Place Courtyard in Guttenberg. Live music and a chili buffet will be the focal points of the event, with proceeds benefitting the local food bank and the Wave of the Future campaign.

Musical entertainment will be provided by John Moran of Dubuque. His bluesy vocals, guitar and harmonica were perfected in the bars and honky-tonks along the banks of the Mississippi River. Moran also spent 13 years in Nashville, Tenn., sharpening his songwriting and performing skills. Moran was a founding member of two Dubuque bands that performed in the tri-states for many years, Longshot and Saddletramp. Currently he’s performing solo, playing with the Mississippi Band and working on his second album.

Moran’s songs have been recorded by artists in California, New York and Tennessee; most recently by Toronto-based blues artist Johnny Mac on his Canadian release “A Lesson I’ve Learned.” The CD, which contains Moran’s song “If That Ain’t the Truth,” was a Juno Award nominee for Best Blues Album and a Maple Blues nominee for Best Produced Album.

A chili buffet offering an assortment of soups with seasonally appropriate pumpkin and apple desserts will be available for a free will offering. Non-alcoholic beverages will be available, and guests are invited to bring their own adult beverages from home or visit Sodes Green Acre Country Market just around the corner for a selection of craft beer and wines.

“As this weekend is one of the busiest for leaf-lookers, it is anticipated that we will have lots of traffic on the Great River Road,” said organizer Juanita Loven, noting that Umbrella Arts plans to draw people in with signage along that route. River Park Place will be showing football games on the conference center television for those who’d like to keep up with another fall pastime.

For more information, call or email Juanita Loven at 563-252-1310 or lovenrj@alpinecom.net. River Park Place is located at 308 South River Park Drive in Guttenberg.
