win Darlington Invitational

The Prairie du Chien girls varsity cross country team won the Darlington Invitational against 25 teams on Saturday for the first time in the 34-year race history.  

The girls scored 76 points to top second-place Darlington’s 88 points. Darlington, 2016 Division 3 State Champion, was definitely favored to win on their own home course.  

“I think we stunned a lot of people today. Prairie du Chien hasn’t been a team others had to worry about in a long, long time. This is a really special group of girls,” said Coach Kathleen Hein. 

Amber Huser out sprinted Darlington’s top runner Reghan Komprood on the home stretch to take third. Sophomore Karly Jaynes came in 10th, followed closely by freshman Greta Hein in 14th and junior Ella Hein in 18th place. Freshman Meg Katzung was the final scoring team runner in 31st place out of over 190 girls. Faith Dillman and Jayden Jenks rounded out the varsity team. 

“I’m so proud of everyone on our team! This is going to be such a great year and I’m so excited,” said Karly Jaynes. Madalyn Roche. 

Kendall Hill and Harlee Eastman all reached personal bests in the junior varsity race.  

Prairie du Chien did not have enough boys to score as a team in the boys varsity race, but junior Blake Bartels ran well. He took more than 2 minutes off of his time from last year. Charlie Eastman, Jayce Sexton, Collin Seeley and Brady Bartels all reached personal goals in the JV race.
