Kenneth F. “Kenny” Schmerbach, 82, of Guttenberg passed away peacefully on Monday, July 24, 2017, at home surrounded by his family.

Funeral services were Thursday, July 27, at Leonard Funeral Home and Crematory, Dubuque, conducted by Deacon John Stierman. Visitation was before services at the funeral home.

Burial was in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Dubuque.

Kenny was born on Sept. 20, 1934, in Dubuque, the son of Ray and Gertrude (Winders) Schmerbach. He graduated from Dubuque Senior High School and was employed with John Deere Tractor Works for 38 years as a tool and die maker. Kenny married Roberta J. “Tuffy” Downing on Feb. 27, 1954, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Dubuque and together they shared over 63 wonderful years of marriage.

He loved snowmobiling, fishing, hunting and boating. Kenny was always quick to lend a hand and loved to help others with projects. Most importantly he loved spending time with his family and friends. He will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

He is survived by his loving wife, Roberta “Tuffy;” sons, Kenneth Jr. (Fritz) Schmerbach, Rob (Beth) Schmerbach, Jim (Angie) Schmerbach, Don Schmerbach, David (Sara) Schmerbach; daughter, Debra (Bob) Richardson; grandchildren, Jason Richardson, Tanya (Tony) Lux, Jeff (Alysia) Schmerbach, Ellen (Mike) Hirsch, Megan, McKinzie, Amanda, Austin, Andrew, and Emma Schmerbach; great-grandchildren, Jacobe, Luke, and Bella Schmerbach, Joe and John Hirsch, and Kinnick, Lux, and Owen Sudmeier.

Kenny was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Shirley Revenig and Marilyn McInerney; brother, Bob Schmerbach and a great-grandson, Derek Steven Hirsch.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Crossing Rivers Hospice, especially nurses Julie and Haley, nurses aide Julie, and Chaplain Pat for all the wonderful care they gave to Kenny.
