On Thursday, June 22, at approximately 9:10 p.m., the Crawford County Sheriff’s Department was notified of a disturbance and a hit and run crash of two parked vehicles on Cypress Lane in Prairie du Chien Township.

A 2006 Chevrolet Impala operated by Gary J. Siegworth, 31, Dubuque, was attempting to back out of a driveway and onto Cypress Lane. Siegworth got into a physical altercation with his passenger while operating the vehicle.

The passenger was attempting to stop Siegworth from driving due to his level of intoxication. Siegworth continued to operate the vehicle and struck parked cars at a nearby residence. Siegworth then fled the area on foot.

Sheriff’s deputies and Prairie du Chien police began to search for Siegworth in the woods and along the roadway. The sheriff’s department received a call stating that Siegworth had made it back to the Holiday Motel in Prairie du Chien where he was staying. A Crawford County deputy who was close to the hotel responded. The deputy found that a window had been removed and Siegworth had entered the room through the window. The deputy made entry through the open window. Siegworth immediately began swinging his fists at the deputy. Siegworth then ran to the back of the room where he broke out another window and began throwing chunks of broken glass at the deputy. The deputy then deployed his Taser which struck Siegworth, who continued to resist. Additional deputies and Prairie du Chien officers arrived and Siegworth continued to resist and fight officers. Siegworth was eventually arrested and was transported to Crossing Rivers Health.

Siegworth is being held in the Crawford County Jail on potential charges of OWI (sixth offense), disorderly conduct (domestic related), strangulation, hit and run to an unoccupied vehicle, criminal damage to property, battery to law enforcement, operating after revocation, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct, along with citations for no insurance and failure to notify police of an accident.

Siegworth had minor injuries. The passenger in the vehicle had unknown injuries and was later transported to Crossing Rivers Health. One of the parked vehicles had minor damage and the other two had moderate damage.

Assisting the Crawford County Sheriff’s Department were the Prairie du Chien Police Department, the Wisconsin State Patrol and Tri State EMS.
