Wilma Elfrieda Hulda (Scherf) Glawe, 84, passed away peacefully on June 13, 2017, at the Elkader Care Center.

Visitation was Saturday, June 17, at Norway Lutheran Church, rural St. Olaf. Funeral services followed the visitation at the church.

Interment was at Norway Lutheran Cemetery, rural St.Olaf.

Arrangements were handled by Leonard-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service.

Wilma was born at home, rural Garnavillo, on Jan. 23, 1933, to Chris and Lenora (Esmann) Scherf. She was baptized at the farm home on Jan. 24, 1933. Wilma was a woman of great faith and strong family. Wilma’s strong faith carried her through many hardships and difficult times and it is serving as a comfort for her family now as she is resting in Heaven with loved ones.

Wilma was united in marriage to Bernelle Valmah Glawe on Dec. 14, 1953, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Garnavillo. Seven children were born into this union and they farmed outside of St. Olaf before moving to town in 1964.

Wilma worked for the town of St. Olaf and at the Hardware Store. She cooked in the tavern. She also worked at Swiss Valley Farms in St. Olaf for 16 years. She enjoyed serving God at Norway Lutheran Church by teaching Sunday school, serving as the Sunday School Superintendent, and with the Women of the Church. Wilma and Bernelle always had a huge garden and she enjoyed cooking and canning the produce. Wilma earned the Governor's Volunteer Award on June 17, 2014. Wilma was an avid seamstress making over 200 quilts that many family and friends received. She selected a special gift for each new grandchild and new great-grandchild from her many beautiful works.

Left to cherish her memories are sons Rick (Rowanne Julich) Glawe of Cedar Rapids and Victor (Lori Walter) Glawe of Windsor Heights; grandchildren, Abby (Jeremiah) Tuttle of Des Moines, Erin (Martin) McIntyre of Trussville, Ala.; Elizabeth (Dexter Yaddof) Glawe of Indianola, Rodney (Heidi Schroeder) Glawe of St. Olaf; Andrea (Colby) Fangman of Ames and Christopher Glawe of Des Moines; great-grandchildren, Marissa, Landon, Brylie, and Ariella Glawe of St. Olaf, Lila and Harrison Tuttle of Des Moines and Martin III and Ronan McIntrye of Trussville, Ala.; daughter-in-law, Maureen Glawe; sister, Gertrude Meyer and a host of other relatives and friends.
