NEW MONITORS GIVEN TO ELKADER LIBRARY

Patrons who use computers at the Elkader Public Library are in for a pleasant surprise. 

Thanks to a very recent donation from FreedomBank, larger monitors are now available for the public to use during library hours. The bank delivered more than a dozen 19-inch monitors Monday, replacing a similar number of 17-inch monitors already in use at the library.

FreedomBank, Elkader,  is in the process of upgrading their equipment to a model that will provide better viewing for the specific tasks of their employees. The monitors they gave the library are only three or four years old.

“By chance, I stopped by the library one morning and asked (Library Director Lisa Pope), if they could use any monitors,” said Krista Fischer, IT Officer at FreedomBank. Fischer learned that new monitors were, in fact, on the library’s “wish list.” 

“What lucky timing,” Fischer continued, adding that one of bank’s “core values is to help the communities we serve so this was a win-win for both FreedomBank and the library.”

Pope said it would’ve taken a few years to get monitors if the library had to rely on its own resources. Computers are used, on average, anywhere from 300 to 400 times monthly.

“This is a perfect donation because monitors don’t required anything more than just plugging them into the computers,” she continued. “We had all of them up and running—and some even in use—within 30 minutes.”

This is not the first technology donation to the library in recent times. Central Community Hospital has also given computers and monitors.

Pope said the smaller monitors, which are still usable, would likely be offered for sale in the future, with proceeds going back to the library for programming and equipment needs.
