He attended Glidden Ralston High School, class of 1950, where he met his high school sweetheart and wife of 63 years. Max and Alyce were married in Ralston on May 1, 1954. Max attended Iowa State University before working in the dairy industry and with Tri State Breeders. He then worked at SEIG Company Auto Parts for many years before retiring in 1989.

Max was preceded in death by his mother and father; brother Robert, and his son David. Survivors include his loving wife Alyce; children, Debra, Beth (Rick) Rentschler and Kim (Aaron) Stoltz; four grandchildren; Stacey Rentschler, Brian (Thea) Rentschler, Jason (Jade) Hunt and Jamie Hunt; seven great-grandkids, Allison, Taylor, Haley, Peyton, Avery, Sienna and Delaney.
