On May 14, at 12:34 a.m., the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a one-vehicle traffic crash with injuries on Sunny Ridge Road in the township of Haney.

Matthew Jensik, 23, Madison, was operating a 2008 Ford pickup truck on Sunny Ridge Road. Jensik’s vehicle crested a hill and a sharp curve at a high rate of speed. While attempting to negotiate the sharp curve, the vehicle slid sideways, went over an embankment and rolled onto its top. The passengers in the vehicle were identified as Garrett Dunstan, 22, Houghton, Mich., and Brock Riutta, 24, Madison. Dunstan was completely ejected from the vehicle but refused medical treatment. Riutta was partially ejected and was transported by Ocooch Mountain Rescue to Boscobel Health Care for his injuries. The extent of his injuries are unknown at this time.

During the crash investigation, it was determined that Jensik’s vehicle was following behind a 2015 Chevrolet Malibu being operated by Jennifer Stevens, 20, Richland Center. Passengers in the Steven’s vehicle were identified as Sarah Bruckner, 21, Richland Center, Allison Jonas, 19, Watertown, and Miranda Swiggum, 21, Sun Prairie. The driver and passengers of the 2015 Chevrolet Malibu remained on scene during the crash investigation.

Jensik was arrested for operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of an intoxicant, causing an injury. Jensik was also issued citations for operating a vehicle without insurance, failure to keep vehicle under control, operating after suspension of vehicle registration, failure to wear a seat belt and possession of open intoxicants in a motor vehicle. Dunstan and Riutta were both cited for riding in a motor vehicle without wearing a seat belt.

Stevens was arrested for operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of an intoxicant. Stevens was also issued citations for operating with a prohibited alcohol concentration and keep open intoxicants in motor vehicle.  

Assisting the Crawford County Sheriff’s Department were Ocooch Mountain Rescue, the Gays Mills Fire Department, Boscobel Health Care, Crossing Rivers Health and Milo’s Towing and Repair.
