LaNida Severidt, 95, of State Center, Iowa, passed away May 10, 2017, at the Madrid Home for the Aging, Madrid, Iowa.

A visitation was held from 4 to 6 p.m., Sunday, May 14, at Memorial Services of Iowa funeral home.  Funeral services were Monday, May 15th, in the chapel at Madrid Home for the Aging.

LaNida Vivian Lemke, daughter of George L. and Amanda E. (Schmidt) Lemke, was born October 2, 1921, on the family farm, Clayton County, Iowa. She attended Denmark Rural School through eighth grade.  She was a graduate of Elkader High School, Class of 1940. Having completed Normal Training, LaNida taught school for five years at Clayton Center and Hope [Country] Schools in Read Township, Clayton County.

January 11, 1941, she married Delbert E. Miller at the Little Brown Church, Nashua, Iowa. They farmed near St. Olaf, Iowa, until 1957. Together they adopted two daughters:  Sharon born December 1948 and Nancy born November 1953.

Moving to Ankeny, LaNida was a homemaker. She accepted a job as housekeeper for Frank and Dorothy Lint, a position she proudly held for 29 years. She was active as a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Parkview Elementary PTA, was a 4-H Club Leader, enjoyed her many flower beds and a large vegetable garden.

In 1968 LaNida and Delbert moved to Polk City where both worked for Denniston and Partridge Lumber Company. LaNida was instrumental in establishing the first library in Polk City. 1980 brought a transfer to State Center, Iowa, for Delbert. LaNida again enjoyed gardening, church activities including Circle and Quilting, Senior Citizens, Card Club, Birthday Club, and visiting shut-ins.

November 5, 1994, LaNida married Glen W. Severidt in State Center. They enjoyed travel, grandchildren, church activities, and visiting friends and family.

October 2011 LaNida became a resident of the Garden Apartments, Madrid Home Communities. She moved to the care center August 2014. She made many new friends, enjoyed activities such as
BINGO, attending chapel, watching Hallmark Channel and her DVD’s, and sharing her sense of humor and positive enjoyment of life.  She never knew a stranger.

Survivors include a daughter, Sharon (Mitchell) Arney of Ankeny, Iowa; son-in-law LeRoy Passmore of Sheldahl, Iowa; grandchildren Brian (Lisa) Arney of Winter Garden, Florida, Kevin (Yuqian) Arney of Augusta, Georgia, Meredith (Nathan) Eaton of Ankeny, Iowa, Michelle (John L., Sr.) Schuster of Indianapolis, Indiana, Robert Passmore of Elkhart, Iowa, and Nicholas (Mary) Passmore of Knoxville, Tennessee. Her great-grandchildren:  Rebecca Passmore, Jeffrey Passmore, Caroline, Harrison, and Jillian Arney, Karen Arney, Garrett Eaton, John L., Jr. “Jack” and Lydia Schuster.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Delbert, her husband Glen, and her daughter Nancy Passmore.
