On April 19, Prairie du Chien police officers saw in the city of Prairie du Chien a 1999 Mercury Sable being operated by Alicia Jones, 35, Bagley, and her passenger Christopher Kivi, 41, Bagley. The officers lost sight of the vehicle and later located it in the parking lot of Piggly Wiggly located in the township of Bridgeport.

The officers saw the vehicle drive around to the side of the business and park. The occupants attempted to walk away from the vehicle as the officers approached. The officers made contact for an equipment violation and requested the assistance of the Crawford County K-9 Unit. K-9 Breck was utilized for an open free air sniff of the vehicle and subsequently alerted to the presence of one or more controlled substances he is trained to detect.

A probable cause search of the vehicle was conducted due to the K-9 alert. Marijuana residue was located in the vehicle and the passenger, Kivi, was found to be in possession of a schedule 4 controlled substance.

Other contents in the vehicle led to a retail theft investigation on Jones. The deputy discovered that Jones had stolen numerous items from within Piggly Wiggly and found her to also be in possession of a makeshift tin foil bag, which is used to conceal merchandise in order to bypass anti-theft detection technology inside several retail stores.

Jones is suspected of conducting numerous thefts at several retail stores throughout the Prairie du Chien and Bridgeport Township area.

Jones was arrested by the Crawford County Sheriff’s deputy. Possible charges include shoplifting and possession with intent to use a theft shielding device.

Kivi faces potential charges for possession of a schedule 4 controlled substance and party to a crime.
