Tony Evers has secured his third term as state school superintendent in Wisconsin, defeating Whitnall School District Superintendent Lowell Holtz. Statewide in Tuesday’s general election, Evers earned 70 percent of the vote. Crawford County voted along with the state’s constituents, casting 1,424 votes for Evers, or 78 percent, and just 394 for Lowell.

Locally, the non-contested election for at-large representatives on the Prairie du Chien Common Council saw incumbents Nate Gilberts and Edward Hayes-Hall voted back in, with 65 and 41 votes, respectively.

Also, a number of school board and township board seats were on Tuesday’s ballot.

The Prairie du Chien Area School District had two seats up for election. Running for re-election to his position, Kyle Kozelka earned 41 votes. Nick Gilberts received 12 write-in votes, and though he was already on the board holding a term that expired in April of 2018, this election gives him a different seat, which was most recently held by Devan Toberman, for a three-year term, ending in 2020.

In the River Ridge School District, incumbent Kenny Nies and newcomer Karla Irish were chosen to fill the two seats up for election.

In Seneca, Shawn Lenzendorf and Mark Johnson received enough votes to fill the two, three-year terms and Gary Allan emerged as an electorate favorite to fill a one-year term.

Wauzeka-Steuben will see incumbent Tom Jazdzewski return on the school board, while newcomer Jessie Bird will take the vacant seat.

The Eastman Township board had several contested races Tuesday for its town chair and two town supervisor seats. Sam Tesar Jr. received more votes than Gaylord Kramer, 78-69, to earn the seat. For supervisor, Roy Kramer and David Slaght were declared winners with 75 and 74 votes, respectively, while Lonnie Achenbach finished the night with 73 and Dale Hall ended up with 62.

Additional election results from some of the outlying communities in Crawford County will be reported in Monday’s Courier Press.
