James LeRoy Wolcott, 66, passed away unexpectedly at home Saturday, March 11. 

 

James was born April 14, 1950, at Beaumont Hospital, in Prairie du Chien, to Glenn and Mildred (Eggleston) Wolcott. Jim graduated from Seneca High School in 1968. 

 

On Aug. 26, 1972 he was united in marriage with Mary Jo Valley and they had two daughters. Jim owned and operated J & J Electric in Harpers Ferry, Iowa, for thirty-eight years. In the Harpers Ferry area, everyone knew if something was broken Jim was the guy to call.

 

Jim shared his love of the outdoors with all who knew him and especially enjoyed hunting in South Dakota, Colorado, and around home. He loved fishing in Canada, and being outdoors. Jim loved to learn and was a self-taught man; tinkering with everything until he mastered it. He had a love for classic Chevy’s and enjoyed restoring them. 

 

Jim is survived by his wife of forty-four years, Mary Jo; daughters, Bev Mentzer, Sioux Falls, S.D., Rita Wolcott (Bobbie), Holmen; three grandchildren Alexa, Braedon and Ana; siblings, Rita (Donald) Hoelker, William (Cookie) Wolcott, Carolyn (Dan) Wokosin, Duane (Carol Jean) Wolcott, and Thomas Wolcott. Jim is also survived by his little buddy, Ricky.

 

He is preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Robert and Raymond Wolcott. 

 

Funeral Services will be Monday, March 20, at 11 a.m. at St. Ann–St. Joseph Catholic Church, Harpers Ferry, Iowa with a visitation two hours before the funeral from 9 to 11 a.m. at the church on Monday. Rev. John Moser will be the Officiant. Inurnment will be at a later date at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church Cemetery, Wexford, Iowa. Thornburg-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Lansing, Iowa is helping the family with the arrangements.
