Voters in the Clayton Ridge Community School District on Feb. 7 approved a public measure providing for an increase in the tax levy for physical plant and equipment improvements at the Guttenberg and Garnavillo school campuses. Voters authorized a 10-year levy representing an increase of 67¢ over the current PPEL.

Unofficial results showed 613 in favor of the increase and 441 opposed, representing a margin of 58% favorable and 42% opposed. The measure raises the current levy to $1.34 per thousand of assessed valuation. The official canvass of votes was scheduled to take place Monday, Feb. 13.

In December of last year, voters rejected a similar PPEL tax levy asking for a 67¢ increase. At that time, the vote was 365 opposed and 267 in favor. The Feb. 7 turn-out represented a 67% increase over the number of voters who went to the polls in December.

"On behalf of the Clayton Ridge School Board, administration and faculty, I would like to thank our community for their recent support that led to the passing of the PPEL vote," commented Superintendent Shane Wahls. "We are excited to move forward with facility planning to serve the families and students of Clayton Ridge.  As the superintendent, I am privileged to work with such a wonderful community."
