Hawkettes perform at

WACPC State Dance Competition

Saturday, Feb. 4 was a great day to be a Blackhawk! The Hawkette Dance Team competed at the WACPC State Dance Competition at the La Crosse Center. The Hawkettes gave two amazing performances at state, ones that the team is really proud of!

The team earned 11th place in D4 Pom. Only six points separated sixth through 11th place, so the competition was fierce. The girls also earned seventh place in D2 Kick (fifth through seventh places were .5 points from each other). The Hawkettes performed with all their hearts and hung in with some of the best talent in the state.

Coach Kelli Saxe said, “I am so proud of my team and all of the hard work they put in to make their season so successful. The girls really pulled together this past month to make amazing things happen. All of us watching knew the scores were going to be really close because all of the teams did a fantastic job! In D4 Pom sixth through 11th places were a half a point to a point from each other totaling six points altogether to separate them, so that just goes to show you how tight the scores ended up. In D2 Kick we were half a point from sixth place and that team was half a point from fifth place. The Hawkettes performed well, we have no regrets, and were glad to go toe to toe with some of the best talent in the state. Overall it was a fantastic experience and we have much to be proud of!”

The team greatly appreciates all of the local businesses who put good luck wishes on their signs and all of those who supported them on their state journey.

The girls will showcase their state-qualifying routines along with all of the other routines from their season at their Seventh Annual Blackhawk Bleacher Bash Showcase on Sunday, Feb. 26 at 2 p.m.  This event will include performances by the Hawkettes, the mini-Hawkette youth dancers, the Prairie du Chien basketball cheerleaders, the parents, the dance and cheer alumni, the Clayton Ridge Drill Team, the Seneca Arrows Dance Team, the Fennimore Dance Team, the Viroqua Dance Team, the Dodgeville youth cheerleaders, the UW-Platteville Dance Team, and the Upper Iowa University Dance Team.

It is sure to be an entertaining event. Admission is only $3. The Hawkettes hope everyone will come to watch and celebrate all of the success of their season!
