Leona M. Carl, 100, of Prairie du Chien, passed away Saturday, Jan. 28, at Crossing Rivers Health Care in Prairie du Chien. 

 

She was born Dec. 6, 1916, in Prairie du Chien, the daughter of Amos and Mary (Mertens) Zable. She married Oscar Carl on Nov. 23, 1935, at St. Gabriel’s Church in Prairie du Chien. He preceded her in death on Feb. 3, 1999. Leona was an active member of St. Gabriel’s Parish. 

 

She is survived by her children Dr. Richard (Kay) Carl, of Phoenix, Ariz., Arthur (Kathy) Carl, of Beloit, and Shirley (Donald) Cipra, of Prairie du Chien; nine grandchildren; seventeen great grandchildren; and four great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and a brother Lawrence Zable. 

 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, Jan. 31, at 11 a.m. at St. Gabriel’s Church of the Holy Family, Rev. James Weighner officiating, with burial in the Calvary Cemetery both in Prairie du Chien. Friends may call on Tuesday from 9 a.m. until the time of departure for the church at the Garrity Funeral Home in Prairie du Chien. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Crossing Rivers Hospice Program or Crossing Rivers Health Care.
