Luella Krapfl, 86, of Dubuque, passed away Monday, Jan. 16, 2017, surrounded by her loving family.

Visitation was Friday, Jan. 20, at Church of the Resurrection, Dubuque.

Funeral services were Saturday, Jan, 21 at the church.

Burial was at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Dubuque.

Egelhof, Siegert and Casper Westview Funeral Home and Crematory, Dubuque was in charge of arrangements.

Luella was born on Feb. 28, 1930, in Epworth to Daniel and Elizabeth (Nevins) McDermott. She graduated from Epworth High School where she was known as “Luella the one with the golden voice, of all the sopranos, she’s our choice.” She married Donald Krapfl in 1949. They were married for 50 years and together raised ten children. He preceded her in death on March 23, 1998.

She was employed at both Kmart and for Singer Sewing Machines as a sales associate.

Luella was a member of Church of the Resurrection.

Luella was a wonderful and caring mother and grandmother. Her pride and joy was raising ten beautiful children. Along with singing old songs to her children, and later her grandchildren, Luella enjoyed bingo and the Chicago Cubs. 

Survivors include her children, Elizabeth (Dan) Murray of Guttenberg, Laurance (Darlene) Krapfl of Peosta, Carol (Tim) O’Brien of Millville, Rod (Mary Jane) Krapfl, Marla Donovan, Dennis (Karla) Krapfl, Twila Krapfl-Heim, Mary (Buck Norton) Copeland, Joan Metz, all of Dubuque, and Dominic (Danelle) Krapfl of Guttenberg; 39 grandchildren; 65 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and sisters, Sister Jeanine McDermott, O.S.F. of Dubuque and Vivian Zalaznik of Epworth.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild; son-in-law, Bob Donovan; and siblings, Honora Schmitt, Mabel Roths, Daniel, Ray, Eleanor, and Kathryn McDermott.

In lieu of flowers, a Luella Krapfl Memorial Fund has been established.
