Clayton Ridge school board January meeting
The Clayton Ridge School Board of Directors met in regular session on Jan. 12 at 7 p.m. Members in attendance were John Heying, Michael Finnegan, Alicia Helle, Ellen Johnson and Jason Reimer. Christine Aulwes and Kathy Ihde were absent.
Superintendent Wahls’ report addressed the K12 contract renewal, the honor of being named a Platinum Star District 2016 for meeting requirements for the Gold Star List after completing the certified enrollment prior to the deadline with no need for corrections, the receipt of $5,000 from the Mid American Music Association to use toward the music programs, the upcoming PPEL vote in February and an event planned for adults in the Clayton Ridge District and the 5C Coalition in March.
Principal Peterson reported on past and upcoming building and athletic events, a canine sweep of the high school and middle school by the Clayton County Sheriff’s Department, essential standards work, literacy testing at the elementary level, the hosting of large group speech contest and a visit from Central students to Mr. Mueller’s cabinet making class.
Board members unanimously approved a contract purchasing driver education services from NICC at a rate of $349.00 per student.
An inter-fund loan in the amount of $15,000 was approved from the management fund to the lunch fund with said loan to be paid back with interest by June 30, 2017.
Open enrollment requests from Joshua Hertenstein and Charity Wojciechowski were approved for a move from Central to Clayton Ridge. One open enrollment request from an IAVA student to attend the East Mills District was approved and four requests into IAVA were denied due to diversity plans and late filing.
The board approved the annual senior trip to Florida and the 8th grade trip to the Wisconsin Dells in May.
Board members also approved the request of District Interpreter Kip Jackson to use a middle school classroom to co-teach a sign language course after school hours for any students, faculty or members of the public who are interested. (Taken from board minutes by Mary Seifert, edited by Molly Moser.)
