are third at Stevens Point
On Saturday, Jan. 14, the Prairie du Chien Blackhawks traveled to Stevens Point for the SPASH Duals. There were 10 teams in the tournament, split into five-team pools to wrestle each other.
At the conclusion of the pool rounds, teams would wrestle for placement based on their win/loss record. PdC’s pool consisted of Baraboo, Manitowoc, Rhinelander, and Stevens Point. The Blackhawks went 3-1 in their pool, beating Baraboo 39-31, Stevens Point 48-30, and Manitowoc 56-16. PdC was defeated by a very solid Rhinelander squad 42-33. In the Baraboo match, the Blackhawks were led by falls from Reid Koenig, Blake Garcia, Traeton Saint, Nick Rogge, and Stephen Ronnfeldt. Against Stevens Point, Blake Garcia, Tyler Smock, Nick Rogge, and Ethan Swiggum recorded falls to lead PdC to the win. Leading the way against Manitowoc with falls were Traeton Saint and Colten Wall. Against Rhinelander, Kennan Holley, Traeton Saint, Nick Rogge, Stephen Ronnfeldt and Jerrod Osterkamp recorded falls.
After going 3-1 in their pool, the Blackhawks would face DC Everest, who was 3-1 in their pool. In an exciting match, the Blackhawks would come away with a 29-27 victory for a third-place finish. Leading the way in the placement match with falls were Chase Watson, Reid Koenig, Traeton Saint, and Tyler Smock. For the day, the Blackhawks finished with 38 individual wins against 20 losses. Nick Rogge and Traeton Saint were a perfect 5-0 for the day.
The win moved the Blackhawks to 12-3 on the dual season. In upcoming action, PdC will host an SWC meet against Richland Center on Thursday, Jan. 19 at 7 p.m. The seniors will be recognized. It will also be alumni night. Any PdC wrestling alumni are asked to meet in the wrestling room at 6:30. On Saturday, Jan. 21, the wrestlers will travel to the Monroe Invitational with grappling set to begin at 9:30.
