Joseph R. Stoeffler, 61, passed away on Friday, Jan. 6, at UW Hospitals, Madison.

 

He was born on Jan. 22, 1955, the son of Raymond and Arlene (Laufenberg) Stoeffler. Joe graduated from West Grant High School in 1973 and furthered his education at Western Wisconsin Technical College in La Crosse. He was united in marriage on April 8, 1978, to Rita A. Kamrath at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Tomah. 

 

Joe owned and operated Joe’s Repair in Mount Hope. He was also employed at various automotive and car dealerships. Joe worked for Huebsch, Swenson & Son, Pink’s Automotive, Les Mack Chevrolet, and Braudt Automotive. He served as mayor of Mount Hope for over 20 years and was a dedicated member of the Mount Hope Volunteer Fire Department and served as the fire chief and secretary. He was also a member of St. Lawrence O’Toole Catholic Church. Joe enjoyed camping, auto racing, and snowmobiling. He dearly loved his family and keeping up with their activities.

 

Survivors include his daughters: Andrea (Matt) Mezera and Kim (fiancé Matt Van Rixel) Stoeffler; four grandchildren: Cody, Mason, Madison, and Clay Mezera; his siblings: Bill (Sharon), Patricia (Terry) Winkers, Linda (Harry “Junior”) Miller, Jim (Pat), Mary Hendrickson and David Stoeffler; his mother-in-law: Beatta Kamrath and her family; many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by his loving wife, Rita in 2007; his father-in-law, Harry Kamrath; and his brother-in-law, Tony Hendrickson.

 

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 11, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Lawrence O’Toole Catholic Church in Mount Hope with Father John Meinholz officiating. Burial will be in St. Lawrence O’Toole Cemetery. Family and friends may call on Tuesday, Jan. 10, from 4 until 8 p.m. at Martin Schwartz Funeral Home & Crematory in Bloomington, where a 3:45 p.m. parish rosary will be prayed. Friends may also call on Wednesday from 9 until 10 a.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of plants and flowers, a Joseph R. Stoeffler Memorial Fund has been established.
