Arleen M. Adams

Arleen Marie Adams, wife of the late Leonard Adams, passed away peacefully in her own home in Houston, Texas on Monday, Dec. 12, 2016, at the age of 95. 

Visitation and funeral services honoring her were held at Linwood Cemetery in the Mueller Memorial Chapel, Dubuque, on Saturday, Dec. 17, followed by a luncheon.

Arleen was born in Guttenberg on April 30, 1921, daughter of Alfred and Rosetta Wittman. She grew up on her family farm near Elkader and married Leonard Adams on Dec. 27, 1945. They started their life together while he attended Loras College in Dubuque and then moved to Ames and then further on to maintain a home in Rockford, Ill., for over 50 years. They were married for 70 wonderful years filled with world travels, strong family bonds, and wonderful memories of their home in Rockford.

Arleen was a loving mother who worked tirelessly, providing a wonderful home and family life. She was a grandmother who dearly loved her four granddaughters, and was continually supportive and proud of them. She also enjoyed exercising, gardening and baking. Her famous pie and cookie recipes will be treasured by the family for generations.

Left behind to remember her and continue her legacy are her daughter, Nancy Adams Blume with son-in-law, Jerry Blume and daughter, LuAnn Adams Turley with son-in-law, Wendal Turley. She is also survived and held in loving memory by her four grandchildren, Nicole Adams Blume, Clare Adams Blume, Elyse Turley Weed with husband Josh Evan Weed, and Grace Adams Turley. Her memory will forever be cherished by her sister and brother-in-law, Virgene and Clarence Groth and sister-in-law, Fonda Wittman.

In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to be given to Faith Community Hospice, 4721 Garth Rd., Suite H, Baytown, Texas 77521. The family of caregivers in this hospice lovingly supported her daughter, LuAnn, with her care for years.
