Christmas tree pickup Jan. 13, city takes over for the Jaycees
By Correne Martin
Christmas tree pickup in Prairie du Chien will have a new crew of workers behind the project this January, since the Prairie du Chien Jaycees have decided not to continue organizing the endeavor.
Instead, this year, the Prairie du Chien Public Works Department will take care of picking up Christmas trees on Friday, Jan. 13, weather permitting. Residents and businesses who wish to have their real trees picked up are asked to place them at the curb by Jan. 13 and the city will take care of disposal. The city requests trees are not put out sooner than Jan. 11. In the event of inclement weather, the pick-up will be done on Friday, Jan. 20.
Jaycees’ member Ryan Kiester said the club’s membership has declined in recent years and that getting enough volunteers together to pick up Christmas trees has been difficult.
“We have too many events and we just don’t have the membership,” Kiester said. “Years ago, they had probably 60 members. Now we’re down to about 25.”
The Jaycees are seeking new members. Anyone age 21 to 40 is welcome to join by messaging the Prairie du Chien Jaycees on Facebook or calling 326-2280.
