In a special election held Dec. 6, voters in the Clayton Ridge Community School  district rejected a Physical Plant and Equipment property tax levy that would have funded improvements at both the Guttenberg and Garnavillo campuses.

The failed proposition would have provided for an increase of $.67 per $1,000 of taxable valuation.

Unofficial results showed 365 votes (57.75%) against the measure and 267 (42.25%) in favor.

A breakdown of votes by precints is as follows:

Clayton Ridge #1 (Garnavillo): 129 no, 91 yes

Clayton Ridge #2 (Guttenberg) 207 no, 172 yes

Clayton Ridge #3 (North Buena Vista), 17 no, 1 yes.

Absentee ballots tallied 12 no, 3 yes.

"While the the result of the recent PPEL vote was disappointing, the district will remain positive and optimistic for the future of Clayton Ridge," commented Superintendent Shane Wahls. "We will continue to advocate for our students and the environment in which we serve them by holding another special election in February.  The district will also take time to listen and learn about the concerns of our constituents and will seek to provide further details as to the scope of the facility priorities."
