Robert F. Balk, 85, formerly of Prairie du Chien, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 30, at the Charleston House of Memory Care in Beaver Dam. 

 

He was born July 28, 1931, in Prairie du Chien, the son of Joseph and Catherine (Emmons) Balk. Bob served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict aboard the USS Missouri. He worked as a lithographer for Western Printing until his retirement. 

 

He married JoAnn Kutzke on Aug. 29, 1953, and they later divorced. He later married Marian Ackerman Cardine on June 9, 1979, and she preceded him in death on Aug. 10, 2010. 

 

He is survived by his children, Sheila (Kent Meyer) Kessler, of Stevens Point, Bunny Balk, of Columbus, Catherine Heath, of Montello, and Benjamin (Stacey) Balk, of Beaver Dam; his stepchildren, Gregory Cardine, of Sextonville, Randolph Cardine, of Orlando, Fla., and Linette Cardine of Sun Prairie; his brothers, Thomas Balk, of Chicago, and Theodore (Irene) Balk, of S. Beloit; his grandchildren, Sarah, Amy, William, Steven, Jody, Micah, Erin, Jackie, Michelle, Daniel, Jeremy, Kelly and Nick; great grandchildren, Robbie, Kohl, Michael, Jordan, Olivia, Jazmin, Damian, Austin, Mikayla, Amanda, James, Justin, Nicole, Dominic, Arianna, Geralyn, Tayler, Dakota, Wesley, Miles, Hazel, Lydia and Preston; along with great great grandchildren, Tucker and Vivian. He was preceded in death by his wives; an infant daughter Robin; a brother William and a sister Joanne Balk.

 

A memorial service will be Saturday, Dec. 3, at 2 p.m. at the Garrity Funeral Home Chapel, with a private interment later in the Calvary Cemetery both in Prairie du Chien. Military Honors will be accorded by the Prairie du Chien Honor Guard. Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday from 1 p.m. until the time of services.
