Mary Catheryn Judas, 95, of Prairie du Chien, and formerly of Waterloo, Iowa, died on Nov. 25, at Prairie Maison Nursing Home.

 

Mary was born on Aug. 16, 1921, in Guttenberg, Iowa, the daughter of Joseph and Katheryn (Schnelzer) Rolfes. She was baptized at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Guttenberg and confirmed at Holy Name Catholic Church in West Union, Iowa. She graduated from West Union High School and then attended Upper Iowa University in Fayette, Iowa, for one year. In 1951, she went to work as a clerk in the billing department for IPS (Iowa Public Services) in Waterloo. 

 

In 1956, she was united in marriage to Alvin Judas at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. The couple continued living in Waterloo. In 1980, Mary retired from IPS and the couple moved to Ferryville, shortly after Alvin’s retirement in 1987. Mary was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Prairie du Chien.

 

Mary is survived by two grandchildren, Michelle Judas of Mt. Prospect, Ill., and Nicholle Stone of Golf Port, Fla.; one great-grandson, Micah Judas of Glenview, Ill.; three sisters, Donna Nichols, JoAnn Schilling, and Shirley Readyhough; along with many nieces and nephews. 

 

She was preceded in death by Alvin in February of 1999; her son, William L. Judas in 2012; her parents; and two sisters, Marjorie Shepard and Betty Jean Fencl.

 

Visitation will be on Tuesday, Nov. 29, from 10 to 11 a.m. at Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home, in Waverly, Iowa. Burial will follow at the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Waterloo, Iowa.
