The Clayton Ridge School Board of Directors met in regular session on Nov. 10 at 7 p.m. Members in attendance were John Heying, Christine Aulwes, Michael Finnegan, Alicia Helle, Ellen Johnson, Jason Reimer and Kathy Ihde. 

FFA students attending the National FFA Convention reported on their recent trip to Indianapolis.

PLC members and administration reported on a PLC Institute they had recently attended in Des Moines.

Steve Hoff reported on the Iowa Virtual Academy addressing enrollment, school/K12 initiative data, completion/passing rates, early literacy implementation, interim assessments and upcoming field trips.

Principal Peterson’s report addressed building activities, ALICE practices, a mock election held on Nov. 2, Red Ribbon Week, code of conduct study, the Vet’s Day Program scheduled for Nov. 11, and Governor Branstad’s presence in the district on Dec. 14 to recognize elementary students as the recipient of the Scholastic Summer Reading Challenge for four consecutive years.

Superintendent Wahls gave the annual progress report, reported on local meetings he will be attending to address the upcoming PPEL vote, collaborative professional development and plans to share the K12 initial proposal at the December meeting.

Board members accepted the resignation of Theresa Sample-Anderson as building custodian and hired Dan Berns to fill the open position.  

Open enrollment requests of two students into the Iowa Virtual Academy were denied due to the resident district’s diversity plan and filing past the deadline.  The the open enrollment request of Julie Briggs to attend Central from Clayton Ridge was passed unanimously. 

Business manager David Schlueter reviewed the three early retirement programs currently in place and recommended changing the insurance stipend from $500 to $535 in each of the retirement programs, which the board passed unanimously.
