Clayton County election results

A high voter turn-out in Clayton County saw more than 9,000 voters cast their ballots in the Nov. 8 general election to choose county, state and national leaders.
In the presidential race, Clayton County favored Donald Trump with 5,309 votes over Hillary Clinton with 3,236. The Libertarian ticket tallied 384 votes, with a scattering for eight other parties on the ballot.
Iowans returned incumbent Senator Charles Grassley to office. In Clayton County, Grassley drew 5,842 voters to Democratic challenger Patty Judge with 2,778.
Incumbent Republican Ron Blum won the U.S. House of Representatives 1st District race, defeating Democrat Monica Vernon. The Clayton County tally was Blum with 5,385 and Vernon with 3,502.
Incumbent Michael Breitbach defeated Jan Heikes for the State Senate Seat in District 28. County voters gave Breitbach 5,760 votes to Heikes' 2,760 votes.
Republican Kristi Hager defeated incumbent Patti Ruff for the State Representative, District 56. County voters favored Ruff 3,877-3,746.
County offices
Republican Ray Peterson earned a seat on the Clayton County Board of Supervisors, tallying 3,624 votes. Democrat Joleen Jansen had 3,049 votes and Steve Doeppke has 2,164.
Democrat Jennifer Garms won the County Auditor position, defeating Republican Deborah Scott 4,432-4,320.
Incumbent County Sheriff Mike Tschirgi, running unopposed, received 7,801 votes.
