Prairie du Chien Day at the Villa Louis is Sunday, Oct. 30. For a non-perishable food donation, residents of Crawford, Grant, Clayton and Allamakee Counties can tour the one-time Dousman family estate for free.

The Villa Louis and its staff at the Wisconsin historic site wish to thank all of its friends and neighbors during a special day of free admission for Crawford, Grant, Clayton and Allamakee County residents.
Sunday, Oct. 30 will be Prairie du Chien Day at the Villa Louis, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

This is also an opportunity for local residents who haven’t visited the site since their “elementary school field trip” to become reaquainted with the notable Victorian mansion so many take for granted. It’s a chance to be reminded of the Dousman family history as well as that of the grand estate. The mansion has recently undergone a top-to-bottom documentary restoration that has returned the Dousman home to the splendor of its 1890s heyday, using British arts and crafts interior designs inspired by famed designer William Morris.

“This is just a small way we can give back to a very supportive community,” Site Director Susan Caya-Slusser said. “The Villa Louis continues to a see a trend of increased revenue, increased visitation and a lot of it is due to the great word of mouth reviews that get passed on from our area residents and business owners to people visiting our area.”

With a donation of a non-perishable food item, admission will be free for residents of the four area counties on Oct. 30, a savings of $12.50 per adult and $5 per child. The food donations will be given to the Couleecap Food Pantry in Prairie du Chien.
