The Clayton Ridge School Board of Directors met in regular session on Oct. 13. Members in attendance were John Heying, Christine Aulwes, Michael Finnegan, Alicia Helle, Ellen Johnson, Jason Reimer and Kathy Ihde. 

Heying was unanimously elected president of the board with Aulwes unanimously elected vice president. Mary Seifert was appointed board secretary with an hourly raise of 45 cents and Dave Schlueter was appointed treasurer. Board members Heying, Ihde and Finnegan will remain on the negotiations committee. 

The Guttenberg Press was set as the official newspaper. Three local banks were named as depositories for school funds with a maximum depository amount of $3 million per bank.  The board appointed Lynch Dallas Law Firm of Cedar Rapids as legal counsel for the district. 

Meetings will continue to be held on the second Thursday of the month at 7 p.m. January – June meetings will be held at the Garnavillo middle school and July – December meetings will be held at the high school in Guttenberg.

Carolyn Ihde and Molly Andersen addressed the board with a request that FFA members be allowed to attend the National Convention in Indianapolis, Ind., during the week of Oct. 17. Jeremy Idler and members of the high school band addressed the board with a request that they be allowed to travel to New York, N.Y., in March of 2017. The school board unanimously approved both trips, as well as a K-5 reading reward trip to Prairie du Chien, Wis.

Angela Cook was hired as varsity softball coach with Louis Cook as JV and assistant varsity softball coach.  Louis Cook was also hired as the assistant 7-12 cross country coach for the current school year. J.T. Cunningham was approved to voluntarily assist with the high school wrestling program.

Theresa Sample Anderson was approved for hire as a full-time custodian. John Hess was hired to drive bus route three. Thor Rastetter was hired to drive shuttle bus. Bus 11 was approved for purchase at a cost of $52,210.

The AEA technology agreement was amended to increase Travis Geuder’s days of service from 2.5 days to 3 full days per week for a cost of $35,875.83.

The board unanimously approved a request for allowable growth and supplemental aid in the amount of $224,708.74 to cover the special education deficit.  

By a roll call vote of all ayes, the board approved adoption of a resolution of election to levy a voter-approved physical plant and equipment property tax not to exceed $1.34 (an increase of $.67 from the current levy) per $1,000 of the assessed valuation of the taxable property within the school district commencing with the levy for collection in the fiscal year commencing on July 1, 2017. The proposition will be presented to the voters of the district on December 6, 2016.  For more information, see this week's story from Superintendent Shane Wahls. 

The $2,020 purchase of show choir equipment and costumes was approved, to be paid by the Geuder Memorial Fund. 

Board members also approved  the district delivered special education plan as presented.
