Huser on to State
Huser to run at state
The Prairie du Chien Cross Country team had an amazing day on Saturday at the sectional meet in Platteville. Amber Huser finished fourth overall, earning one of the top five spots to qualify as an individual for the WIAA State Championship Cross Country Meet next Saturday in Wisconsin Rapids.
The first five girls all broke 20 minutes for the 5K to qualify in arguably the fastest sectional in the state.
“I felt great the whole race,” said Amber. “It was super emotional to cross the finish line—the happiest moment ever. This was a goal ever since I started running cross country in fifth grade. Ella and I went with Coach Alli to watch the state meet in eighth grade and that was super inspirational for me.”
Not only did Amber qualify for State, but she ran a 19:49 to set a new personal best and shatter her goal of 20 minutes. Ella Hein also ran well against stiff competition to finish as the 10th individual.
“I ran my best even though it wasn’t enough to qualify. Amber had an awesome race. I’m so excited for her and can’t wait to cheer her on next Saturday,” said Ella.
Karly Jaynes finished third for the team in 32nd place. Faith Dillman was 47th and Madeline LaRocque finished in 84th place to help the team take ninth place.
