It was reported to the Prairie du Chien Common Council Tuesday night that its Coulee Cab taxi service may eliminate its safe ride hours on Friday and Saturday nights due to lack of public use at that time. The Crawford County Tavern League’s SafeRide program would continue to run in the city however.

“They simply don’t have the ridership during those hours,” City Administrator Aaron Kramer said of the Coulee Cab service. He noted that, if the late night/early morning hours were eliminated, those hours would be shifted to weekday afternoons and early evenings.

A public hearing is set for the Tuesday, Nov. 15, council meeting, at 7 p.m., in the council chambers. Citizens and Coulee Cab’s Friday and Saturday night users should attend and share their opinions.

According to the Crawford County Tavern League Facebook page, its free SafeRide program gets Prairie du Chien area bar patrons home or to their hotel when they’re too drunk to drive themselves.
