Anna Marie Butikofer, 80, of Elgin, Iowa passed away Sunday, October 9, 2016 at the Good Samaritan Society in Postville, Iowa. Anna Marie, the daughter of Azel and Norma Augusta (Warner) Pratt, was born November 1, 1935, at her home near Elkader, Iowa. Ann graduated from Central High School in Elkader.  Prior to her marriage, Ann worked as a switchboard operator for the Elkader Telephone Office.  

Ann was united in marriage with Dan Junior Butikofer on February 14, 1955, at Peace Evangelical and Reformed Church in Elkader. Four children were born to this union. Ann and Dan farmed together and raised their children on a couple of different farms that they rented until 1970. She worked as a cook at the Airport Inn in Elkader and the Valhalla Supper Club in Clermont. She and Dan both worked at the Elgin Canning Factory and were caretakers of the Elgin Cemetery. Ann also worked for Atwood in West Union, Iowa. Ann and Dan moved to an acreage between Elgin and Wadena and did a great amount of gardening. They enjoyed taking garden produce to the Farmer’s Market in Clermont on Saturday mornings.  

Ann was a member of the Elgin Lutheran Church and WELCA, the American Legion Auxiliary, and the Good Neighbors Club. She enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening, visiting with family and friends, camping, fishing, cooking, and baking.

Ann is survived by her children, Deborah (Arnold) Guyer, Danice (Terry) Cummings, Kenny (Diane) Butikofer, and Karen (Lee) West, all of Clermont, Iowa; 13 grandchildren, Ann (Steve) Bushman, Susan (Lowell) Gavle, Teresa Becker, Jeremy Guyer, Jeffrey (Kara) Guyer, Julie (Joshua) Abbott, Tim (Amy) Cummings, Travis (Jessica) Cummings, Jessica (Blake) Hasenmiller, Joshua (Kimberly) Butikofer, and Logan, Lexi, and Lynzee West; 24 great grandchildren; eight great-great grandchildren; her sister, Kay (John) Schilling of Colesburg, Iowa; and her sister-in-law, Sharon Pratt of Waukon, Iowa.

Ann was preceded in death by her husband, Dan; her parents; twin brothers that died in infancy; her brother, Ray Pratt; and her brothers and sisters-in-law, Carrie (Fred) Trafelet, Leah (Sam) Schneider, Tillie (Merlin) Hellum, Mabel (Willie) Thorsgaard, Lorraine (Myron) Houg, Ben (Ragna) Butikofer, Elmer (Lydia) Butikofer, and Silas (Patricia) Butikofer.     

Visitation was held Wednesday, October 12, 2016, from 4-7 pm at Elgin Lutheran Church, Elgin, Iowa and one hour before services at the church on Thursday. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, October 13, 2016, at Elgin Lutheran Church, Elgin, Iowa with Rev. David Coffin as the officiant. Burial followed at Elgin Cemetery, Elgin, Iowa.

Leonard-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Elgin, Iowa assisted the family with the arrangements.
