High school musical to have flying, a Saturday matinee and online ticket sales

By Audrey Posten

This fall’s MFL MarMac high school musical—”Peter Pan”—will feature several firsts: flying, a Saturday matinee show and online ticket sales.

The production will be performed Friday and Saturday, Nov. 11 and 12, in the high school auditorium in Monona.

Based on the play and novel written by J.M. Barrie, the musical will tell the story of flying boy Peter Pan as he takes Wendy Darling and her brothers to Neverland.

“It will be different from the Disney version,” shared musical director Diane Fisk, who noted it will more closely resemble the productions featuring Mary Martin and Cathy Rigby. “There will be dancing trees, a lion and kangaroo along with Indians, pirates and lots of Lost Boys.”

Cast members will also fly.

Students will be able to do so, Fisk explained, with the use of rigging and special harnesses. Thanks to the auditorium, there will be plenty of space, she added.

“We really wanted to concentrate on a lot of technical stuff,” Fisk said of this year’s production. “We’re a high school, and there’s going to be four [students] flying at one time.”

“The ones who fly are really looking forward to their first lift-off,” she mentioned.

The first official lift-off will be Friday, Nov. 11, at 7:30 p.m. On Saturday, Nov. 12, audiences will have two opportunities to see “Peter Pan,” with showings at 2 p.m. and again at 7:30 p.m.

While the district used to offer matinee performances on Sundays, this will be the first time a matinee will be performed on Saturday, Fisk said.

Tickets for “Peter Pan” will go on sale this week, on Friday, Oct. 21. For the first time ever, they can be purchased online.

To order, go to www.showtix4u.com/index.php?submit=Search+for+Events&current_client=1131.... On the website showtix4u.com, one can also click on “buy tickets” on the left sidebar and search for MFL MarMac. People will be able to select the auditorium seat(s) in which they would like to sit.

Online sales will close at noon on Nov. 11.

Tickets will still be available at the door.

Check back with the North Iowa Times for more information as the production of “Peter Pan” approaches.
