Conrad L. Baughman, 72, of Harpers Ferry, Iowa, passed away Sunday, Oct. 9, 2016 at the Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center just 20 days following the death of his wife Sandra.

He was born Feb. 3, 1944, in San Jose, Calif., the son of Isaac and Reba (Swisher) Baughman. He married Sandra Burchfield, on Sept. 2, 1972. She preceded him in death on Sept. 19 of this year. Conrad worked as a machinist for Monta Vista Machine Shop in Cupertino, Calif., a company he would later own and operate. In 1976, the family moved to the Prairie du Chien area where Conrad later worked as a plant manager for Gencor Bituma in Marquette, Iowa. He later owned and operated Baughman Construction until recently. Conrad was an avid outdoorsman and was a member of the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, the NRA and Ducks Unlimited. He is survived by his children, Shelley (Tom) Maier, of Siloam Springs, Ark., Christa (Troy) Morrison, of Prairie du Chien, Tyler Baughman, of San Jose, Calif., and Jodi Pitman of Shelton, Wash.; his sisters, Phyllis (Clark) Bartkowski, of Darby, Mont., and Kathy (David) DiBenedetto, of Los Gatos, Calif.; his brother Robert (Susanne) Baughman, of Campbell, Calif.; seven grandchildren, Sherrah, Breanna, Chelsie, Carson, Raquel, Kyra, and Destin and two great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; two sons, Travis and Troy Baughman; and a grandson, Conrad Baughman Jr.

A Celebration of Conrad’s Life will be Friday, Oct. 14, where his family will be greeting friends from 2 to 4 p.m. with a eulogy to follow at the Garrity Funeral Home in Prairie du Chien. A private family inurnment will be later.
