PdC soccer team beats Dodgeville

The Prairie du Chien boys soccer team hosted Dodgeville Monday night on the Bluff View pitch.

The teams had split their first two meetings making the match a must win for the Blackhawks to stay in the SWC lead.

Prairie took a quick lead at 9:37 when Jon Dyer found Jack Stoeffler open on the left side and a quick tap gave PdC a the first score.

Two minutes later, Mark Welter had a perfect cross to Dyer who knocked it in for a quick 2-0 Prairie lead.

Both defenses tightened, and the score stood till the 45-minute halftime break.

Dodgeville refocused and came out stronger in the second half. But, 3 1/2 minutes in, Chas Sagedahl took the ball down low in the left corner and penetrated close to the left post. With the defender and the goalie closing in, Sagedahl slid the ball across the front of the net to an awaiting Preston Hendrix who nailed Prairie’s third goal and his first of the year.

Dodgeville retaliated with a quick breakaway and score at 58:56 to close within 2.

At 74:23, Jack Stoeffler once again found an open Preston Hendrix who finished for his second and Prairie’s fourth score.

With 8 minutes left, Dodgeville slipped in one more score to end the contest with a 4-2 PdC win.

Wesley Schwager had an outstanding night with three phenomenal and 12 total saves. The defensive backs and mids; Evan and Ben Teynor, Nolan Stram, Andrew Waller, Blake Garcia and Nathaniel Oehler, had an outstanding outing. Jake Mara, Weston Hill and Josh Dyer gave key support in the rotation.

The Hawks remain tied with Platteville for the SWC lead and will host the Richland Center Hornets Tuesday at 4:30 with the varsity reserve to follow.

Blackhawks

shut out Hornets

The Prairie du Chien boys soccer team hosted the Richland Center Hornets Tuesday in a Southwest Wisconsin Conference battle.

The Blackhawks took charge from the opening whistle and maintained control throughout the match. The Hawks capitalized on set plays in the first half. First, in the 13th minute, Chas Sagedahl took a corner kick direct into the net.  In the 14th minute, Sagedahl launched a corner to a waiting Evan Teynor who pounded it in with a header. In the 22nd minute, Teynor’s header off the Sagedahl corner ricocheted back out, but Jon Dyer was there to put it away.  In the 23rd minute, Sagedahl pounded a penalty kick off the goalie and nailed the rebound for his second goal. Then in the 26th minute, it was a repeat of the 14th with another perfectly arching corner by Chas to Evan again for the header, giving the Hawks the 5-0 lead which they held into the half.

PdC’s defense shut down the Hornet offense throughout the competition. The back line of Andrew Waller, Nolan Stram, Ben and Evan Teynor with support from Blake Garcia and Sam Peterson, only allowed 1 shot on goal during the 90-minute game which goalie Wesley Schwager easily saved. The player mix on the offensive side of mid’s Mark Welter, Nathaniel Oehler, Chas Sagedahl, and Josh Dyer and forwards Jack Stoeffler, Jon Dyer, Preston Hendrix, Jake Mara, Weston Hill and Clayton DuCharme dominated control throughout the match with excellent ball control and handling.

In the second half, at the 75-minute mark, Preston Hendrix had a nice feed across to Jon Dyer who put it in. In the 77th minute, Hendrix broke through for a 7th Prairie goal to seal the game 7-0.

The Hawks are tied with Platteville/Lancaster for the lead in the SWC. The Hawks host the Hillmen this Thursday at 4:30 for the Homecoming Week SWC Championship decider. Let’s pack the pitch with the “Proud and the Loud.”  Go Hawks!
