School bus/motorcycle fatality on Great River Road Sept. 1

An accident involving a Clayton Ridge school bus and a motorcycle on the Great River Road north of Guttenberg on Thursday, Sept. 1, claimed the life of the motorcyclist, Ronald John Kephart, 50, of Garnavillo.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, the accident occurred as Kephart was travelling  south on the Great River Road on a 2010 Kawasaki and struck a school bus driven by Charlotte Scherer of Guttenberg that was turning west onto Lace Avenue from the Great River Road.

The accident occurred shortly after 4 p.m. "No students were injured, yet it was a very tragic accident for the family of the driver of the other vehicle involved," commented Clayton Ridge Superintendent Shane Wahls. "Counseling services have been put in place for students at school today (Friday), and the accident remains under investigation by law enforcement."  

The Iowa State Patrol, Clayton County Sheriff's Office, the Guttenberg Police Department and Guttenberg EMS assisted at the scene.
