Robert De Koekkoek, 78, of Frenchtown, died Sunday, June 19, 2016.

Memorial services were Thursday, June 23, at Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home, Guttenberg, conducted by Rev. Penny Hansel officiating.

There will be an inurnment this coming fall at Hope Cemetery in Tyler, Minn.

Robert was born on Nov. 12, 1937, in Chanarambie Township, Murry, Minn., the son of Teunis and Pearl De Koekkoek.

Robert received his education from the Edgerton Christian School. On Sept. 5, 1956, Robert was united in marriage with Mary Hamann at the Pipestone Methodist Church and this union later blessed them with four children. Robert spent 48 years as a professional truck driver and even owned a restaurant/bar as well. Robert enjoyed spending time fishing. He was an avid traveler and recently made a trip to New Orleans and Jamaica. He spent many winters in southern Texas and would make several trips over into Mexico during those winter months. He was passionate about gospel music, especially the Black Wood Brothers. He had a beautiful bass voice and even sang in a Barbershop Choir and Quartet for many years. He sang in the choir at a church in Texas during the winters.

Robert is survived by his three children, Robert (Raschell) De Koekkoek Jr. of Rexburg, Idaho, Brenda (Scott) Knudson of Lake Benton, Minn., and Cindy Ward of Sioux Falls, S.D.; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and best friend and companion, Joyce Lahmann; two sisters, Betty Ann De Koekkoek of California, Sandy (Bill) Gerritson of Idaho and many other family and friends.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Minerva Mae Ross; wife, Mary and daughter, Deb Slegers.
