The 2016 Dairy Royalty includes (from left) Dairy Princess Attendant Emily Steger, Little Miss Squirt Attendant Grace Callahan, Little Miss Squirt Darci Jelinek and Dairy Princess Brooklynn Nagel.

More than 100 people came out for the Crawford County Dairy Kick-Off Banquet May 29 at the Eastman United Methodist Fellowship Hall, where Brooklynn Nagel, the 2016 Crawford County Dairy Princess, was crowned.

Brooklynn is the daughter of Jon and Becky Nagel, of Eastman. She is in the 10th grade at Wauzeka-Steuben High School, where she is a very active, highly awarded, and a member of the FFA, currently serving as president of her chapter. Brooklynn is involved with many school programs such as Hornet Club. She is also a member of the Eastman Cloverleaf 4-H club, and a member of her church youth group. Currently, she is employed by Achenbach’s Hy-View Farms in Eastman as a farm assistant, feeding calves, milking, cleaning pens and sanitizing equipment. In the summer, Brooklynn works with her fair animals—pigs and sheep—attends mission trips and is a camp counselor. Brooklynn will serve as Crawford County’s 60th Dairy Princess.

This year’s Crawford County Dairy Princess Attendant is Emily Steger, the 17 year old daughter of Tim and Char Steger, of rural Prairie du Chien. They live on a 480-acre registered Holstein and beef farm. Emily is currently a junior at Prairie du Chien High School, where she is involved in FFA, forensics, Key Club, band, basketball, and track and field. She is also a member of the Holy Family Parish J-Walkers, Crawford County state fair dairy team, and Wisconsin Junior Holstein Association. She enjoys spending time on her family farm and showing her Holsteins at county, district and state shows.

The Crawford County Little Miss Squirt contest is in its 18th year.

Darci Jelinek is the new Crawford County Little Miss Squirt. Darci is the 9-year-old daughter of Brad and Melany Jelinek. She has two brothers, Brent and Beau, and one sister, Kaylee. The Jelinek family lives on a 300-head dairy goat farm near Gays Mills. Darci is in the fourth grade at North Crawford School. She likes to play softball, read, ride horses and do gymnastics. On the farm, Darci likes to feed the baby goats milk, grain, hay and water. Her other jobs are to help milk, chase the goats into the parlor, and feed and water the horses.

The Crawford County Little Miss Squirt attendant is Grace Callahan, the 8-year-old daughter of Josh and Carrie Callahan. Their family farm is near Wauzeka, where they milk Holsteins and Jerseys in a parlor. Grace’s favorite part of living on a farm is all the different animals they have; calves and dogs are her favorite. Her chores on the farm include bedding the calves and feeding her bunny. She also helps her dad and brothers clean the parlor after milking. Grace would like to help the Dairy Princess promote dairy products and teach people how important they are to our health.
