A Burlington Northern Santa Fe train carrying corn on Wisconsin Southern rail line derailed Tuesday evening about two miles east of the village of Wauzeka, according to the Crawford County Sheriff’s Department. Just after 8:30 p.m., the sheriff’s office was notified of the four rail-car derailment, in which an estimated 150 to 200 tons of corn were spilled onto the ground and river bank. The Department of Natural Resources was contacted to determine any hazard to the Wisconsin River. It was determined that the corn poses no threat to humans or wildlife.
