Prairie du Chien
soccer makes strides
The Prairie du Chien girls soccer team played an outstanding game against River Valley on May 12 for parents night.
The team started the evening honoring their parents with a carnation and a special thanks for all their support. These parents have raised some wonderful young ladies! The girls played with the heart and determination to make a strong stand against the conference leading team.
Earlier in the season, the Lady Hawks fell 9-0 to River Valley but PdC surprised them Thursday night! River Valley scored the lone goal in the first half 15 minutes in and Prairie went into the second half with excitement and high energy play.
The girls had beautiful passing and worked hard for a few great drives down the center. Taylor Hendrickson had a breakaway early in the second half but was stopped just shy of the goal. Other strong attacks were made by Kaitlyn Waller and Kylee Weber on the outside. They both stayed strong on the ball and worked tirelessly to get it back from River Valley.
Jesse Gutknecht and Brytta Sagedahl also did a great job at center mid with solid steps that controlled the ball. Prairie du Chien had an indirect kick late in the second half that was taken by Jessica Murawski. She took a beautiful shot into the top corner of the net but the goal was called off due to not having the ball tapped before the shot (an indirect kick may not be directly shot into the goal).
Murawski, Caitlin Pattison and Gracie Colson all had standout games at defense, stepping to the ball to clear up to their forwards and midfield.
River Valley scored 2 goals in the second for a final score of 3-0.
It may not have been a victory for the overall record, but it was a definite step in the right direction for Prairie du Chien to finish out the season with a strong team! Even the referees made the comment that it is impressive how far Prairie has come! Prairie returns to play Tuesday, May 17 at Richland Center.
