Helen Catherine (Lapp) Lipke, 89, passed away peacefully on May 12, at Gundersen Lutheran Hospital in La Crosse. 

Helen was born on March 28, 1927, in her home in High Falls, New York at the foothills of the Catskill Mountains. Helen spent most of her life in Prairie du Chien, and her last months in Galesville. 

Helen cherished her family, She was the beloved mother of Bob Lipke, Mary (Jerry) Tabbert, and Sally (Bill) Johanningmeier; inspiring grandmother of Jeff (Katy) Titley, Laura (Raj) Sangroula, Josh (Jeannie) Johanningmeier, and Kymm (Rob) Clark; step grandmother of Keyara Tabbert and Krimsin (Corey) King; generous great-grandmother of Reese, Lane, Tayte, Max, Lucy and her namesake, Helena. She was step great-grandmother of Vanessa, Danny, Quintin and Logan. Helen was a cherished aunt of Veronica Radowicz, Doug (Judy) Lipke, Dan (Luanne) Lipke, Mary (Marc) deRanitz, Tom (Julie) deRanitz. She is survived by her siblings Arthur Lapp, Charles Lapp, Jr, Marian Thies, Ronnie Lapp, and Harriet McKay. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lyle F. Lipke and siblings Myrtle Dunmire, Fred Lap and Nicholas Lapp. 

Helen loved ice cream, the Brewers, fishing and playing “In the Garden” on the piano. In her younger years she was an excellent swimmer, bowler, ice skater, water skier and card player. Helen enjoyed her work at “the bank,” the People’s State Bank in Prairie du Chien, for many years. 

Helen led a long, healthy life, conquering many obstacles along the way. May her strength inspire us each day.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, May 18, 2016 at 2:00 PM at the Garrity Funeral Home Chapel, Rev. James Weighner officiating with burial in the Evergreen Cemetery both in Prairie du Chien.
