Dental hygiene collection for Kenya
Helene Kuempel of Guttenberg will make her seventh and final trip to Kenya in June with Lutheran Church Missouri Synod (LCMS) Health Ministry, and her granddaughter Sydney Kuempel's will make her first medical mission trip.
Twelve medical team members from all over the USA will be working with Kenya Medical Officers (who have two years of medical training) to serve 2,000-3,000 people in remote villages for five to six long days. All medication and care is free of charge.
The Kuempels will be in Kenya June 17-29, serving in the Lodwar region in the northwest corner of the country. Lodging will be in a Catholic retreat center with electricity, indoor toilets and running water. Mosquito nets will be provided.
"LCMS Health Ministry provides a set of giant teeth for teaching dental hygiene. Syd and I have decided we would like to collect as many toothbrushes and toothpaste to distribute to the children as we can. We would appreciate help from anyone who would like to donate to our cause," said Kuempel.
"Many ask me 'Why?' Why do I spend my money traveling half way around the world and do short
medical missions? For me it has been a life changing experience and definitely has strengthened my faith. 'We love because He first loved us' (1 John 4:19)."
