UTV goes off embankment on private road

One man was injured when a utility terrain vehicle went off an embankment in Wauzeka Township Sunday, May 1, according to the Crawford County Sheriff’s Department.

On Sunday, at 1:09 p.m., the sheriff’s department was notified of a UTV accident on a private road at 53962 Hwy. 60 in rural Wauzeka.

Michael Gillitzer Sr., 67, was operating the UTV when the vehicle left the roadway, went over an embankment about 40 to 50 feet, and came to a rest on the driver’s side. Gillitzer was transported to the Crossing Rivers Health in Prairie du Chien for treatment.

Gillitzer’s passengers, his two young grandchildren, were reportedly uninjured.

The Wauzeka First Responders and Tri- State EMS both assisted at the scene.
