Gloria Lavonne Dettmann, 91, of Garnavillo, passed away April 9, 2016, at the Guttenberg Care Center after a long illness.

Visitation was held at St. Paul's Lutheran Church on April 15, with the funeral service following, conducted by Pastor Gary Hatcher.

Burial was at the Garnavillo Cemetery.

Gloria was born in Highland Township in Elkader to Russell Livingston and Vergie (Wilson) Livingston on Sept. 20, 1925. 

Gloria was baptized and confirmed at Peace Church in Elkader. She graduated from Elkader High School in 1943. She married Donald Dettmann Jan. 18, 1947, at Peace Church in Elkader. To this union eight children were born. Gloria was very committed to her faith and was an active member in the Ladies Aide. She was president for three years, and superintendent of Sunday School for eleven years. Gloria was a homemaker and helped her husband farm. After farming she worked at Swiss Valley Farms in St. Olaf for 15 years and then worked at the Kountry Manor until she retired at the age of 72. She loved to cook, garden, canning and to read. She loved to have big family gatherings at her home. She was loved by all that were blessed to have known her. She was known as "Grandma D" by everyone. 

She will be greatly missed by all. Surviving Gloria are three daughters, Jean Godden, Lisa Dettmann (friend Lou), Kris (Kevin - favorite son-in-law.) Quandahl; one son, Randy Dettmann; 12 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren; four sisters, Jean Werges, Sharon Bahls, Linda French, and Bev Beck; and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were parents; her husband; sons, James, Phillip, and Ken; daughter, Brenda; sister, Betty Engelhardt; brother, Ken Livingston; and brothers-in-law, Harold Bahls, Raymond Werges, and Allen Engerlhardt.
