Ruby Mary Matt, age 81, of Des Moines formerly of Garnavillo, IA, died Friday, March 4, 2016, at Mercy Medical Center West Lakes in West Des Moines, IA.  She was born on December 30, 1934, in Springdale Arkansas, the daughter of Victor and Flossie (Toy) Barron.

Ruby received her early education in Springdale Arkansas and later graduated from the McGuinness Catholic High School in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.  Ruby furthered her education at St. Mary’s College in Leavenworth, Kansas and finalized her education after receiving her nursing degree from Providence Hospital Nursing School in Kansas City, Kansas.  Ruby was a skilled cook who enjoyed reading and family gatherings.  She filled her life with kindness and prayer and good actions especially over her 37 years as a registered nurse at the Central Community Hospital in Elkader.  She was most proud of her six children whom she raised with her loving husband Melvin. 

Ruby is survived by her husband of over 58 years Melvin; six children, Barbara (Paul) Baeuchle of Leavenworth, KS, Ed (Jackie) Matt of West Des Moines, IA, Elaine (Brad) Schaffner of Northfield, MN, Denise (Michael) Nash of Indianapolis, IN, Dan Matt of Wichita Falls, TX & Sharon (Chris) Matt Atkins of Metuchen, NJ; nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren; two sisters, Dorothy Willis of Charlotte, FL & Betty (Walter) Tabary of Destrehan, LA and many other relatives and friends. 

 She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers. Arlie, Homer & J.D. Barron.

Arrangements were handled by Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home, Garnavillo, IA where the family received friends from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., Sunday, March 6, 2016.  Funeral service was at St. Joseph Catholic Church Garnavillo, IA, at 11 a.m. Monday, March 7, 2016, Rev. Marvin Bries officiated. Friends called after 10 a.m. at the church. Interment was at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Garnavillo, IA

In lieu of flowers and all styles of sympathy, the family has requested memorials and you make designate those memorials to the American Cancer Society.
