Beers, Hall at State Wrestling Tournament

Prairie du Chien/Wauzeka-Steuben’s Clayton Beers (120#) ended his high school career in style Saturday afternoon at the WIAA State Tournament. The senior was able to win the last match of his career, and while doing it climb the podium to the third place spot.

Clayton’s tournament started Thursday night in the preliminaries. Clayton put a solid match together to major decision Bennett Temple of Seymour 13-5. In Friday’s quarterfinal match, Beers was defeated by Eric Bauer of Kewaskum 6-0. Bauer would end up placing second. The loss moved Clayton to the consolation side of the bracket. Beers would beat Tommy George of Ashland with a dominating major decision 12-2 to ensure his place on the podium.

This win also set up a rematch with Aaron Bahr of West Salem/Bangor who had beaten Beers for the Sectional Championship less than a week before by a score of 8-6. On Saturday morning, Beers would turn the tables on Bahr and wrestle another solid match and pin Bahr with a near side cradle in 4:19. That win moved Beers to what would be the match for third place.

Beers would wrestle Jensen Langer of Marshall and win with yet another solid match 8-2 and claim the third place medal.

Beers ended his season with a 40-6 record. Beers also ended his career as one of the most decorated wrestlers in PdC history. His 40 wins this season ties him for fourth most in a season. His career record of 122-25 puts him fifth on the all time wins list. He is also a two time state place winner and a two time conference champion.

Peyton Hall (195#) also represented the Blackhawks in Madison. Hall wrestled Thursday night in the preliminary round. Hall, a senior, was defeated by Matt Vanden Heuvel of Denmark 13-5 to end his season at 34-7.

Hall ends his career with 86 wins, which is 11th on the all time wins list. Hall is also a two time conference champion.

Congratulations to both of these young men as they have represented the Blackhawks greatly over the last four years.
