 Eric F. Temte, 79, of Prairie du Chien passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, Feb. 24, at the Crossing Rivers Hospital in Prairie du Chien. 

He was born Nov. 11, 1936 in La Crosse, to Howard and Helen (Linse) Temte. He graduated from Logan High School in 1954 and later from the University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse in 1959 with a masters degree in history. He was in the US Army Reserves and called to active duty during the Berlin Crisis. He married Diana Lee June 11 1966 in Prairie du Chien. Eric taught junior high math at Prairie du Chien Public Schools from 1960 to 1996. He coached junior high school football and basketball, operated the basketball scoreboard, and enjoyed history, swimming, biking, and many outdoor activities. He was also very active in the United Methodist Church of Prairie du Chien, the Prairie du Chien Medical Museum at Fort Crawford and Historical Society of Crawford County. He also enjoyed singing in the Elkader Keystone Chorus.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 50 years Diana of Prairie du Chien; along with his brothers Bill (Louise) Temte of Onalaska, Linse (Nancy) Temte of Naples, Fla.; his sister Alma Johnson of St. Paul Minn.; nieces Beth, Rachael, Ginny, Janet, Jane, Jennifer, Michelle; and nephews Christopher, Andy and Joe. He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother-in-law, Mike.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, March 2, at 11 a.m. at the United Methodist Church, Rev. Barb Cook officiating with burial in the Evergreen Cemetery both in Prairie du Chien. Military honors will be accorded by the Prairie du Chien Honor Guard. Friends may call on Tuesday, March 1, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Garrity Funeral Home in Prairie du Chien and at the church on Wednesday, from 10 a.m. until the time of services.
