Hawkettes Make History
Hawkettes make school history
The Prairie du Chien Hawkettes attended the Wisconsin Association of Cheer and Pom Coaches (WACPC) State Dance Championships Saturday, Feb. 6 at the La Crosse Center. The team competed at state in two categories. Teams placing in the top five at state took home hardware.
The Hawkettes placed fifth in the Division 2 kick category, earning their first ever placing trophy at state. The girls also placed sixth at state in the Division 4 pom category, missing placing at state by only a small margin.
Coach Kelli Saxe stated, “The Hawkettes gave two amazing performances last weekend. Placing at state has always been a dream of ours and, this year, that dream came true. Hearing our name called declaring us fifth place in D2 kick will forever be a recollection each of us will never forget. The looks on the girls’ faces and the emotional outbursts by each of them will forever be ingrained in my memory as one of the proudest moments I have ever had as a coach. The girls have trained and worked so hard to accomplish this. I am so happy to see that it paid off.”
The team will be hosting its Sixth Annual Blackhawk Bleacher Bash on Sunday, Feb. 28, at 2 p.m., at Prairie du Chien High School. The girls will perform the routines they took to state, along with all of the other routines they performed throughout the season. There will also be performances by the JV Hawkettes, the youth Hawkette Dancers, the Hawkettes’ parents, the Prairie du Chien Dance/Cheer alumni, the Clayton Ridge Dance Team, the Viroqua Dance Team, the Seneca Dance Team, the UW-Platteville Cheer and Stunt Team, the Viterbo University Dance Team, Expressions Dance Studio in Iowa, and Xpressions Dance Studio in Prairie du Chien, among others.
There is a small admission fee to attend. There will be concessions, raffles and a 50/50 drawing.
“We hope you will consider attending this event to support the team and celebrate our wonderful season,” said Coach Saxe.
